Books
Bookwise I started reading The Zen of Poker which is utterly utterly fantastic. Just what I was after, and I credit all of my calm cool decision making while qualifying for GBPT to the book. The main benefit i’m gaining is the ability to have completely clear concentrated judgement during critical pressure decisions, final tables, heads up, etc. Where I would previously have locked up and not had the focus to play my A game online. I stopped halfway through to start reading another more in depth book on Zen/Buddhism called Everyday Zen by Charlotte Joko Beck, which I’d highly recommend.

SNGS
The main focus of the month was to play a decent amount of $25+5 2-table turbos on Stars. I shifted from 2-tabling to 4-tabling half way through the month which has went really well. I really don’t think i’m making that many more mistakes while 4-tabling, even while playing a couple of bubbles and a heads up at the same time I feel very comfortable. My decrease in edge from not picking up as many reads is pretty minor compared to the increase in profit per hour. I think the time bank at Stars helps out a lot with this, as I can let the clock run while making a couple of key decisions. I’ll probably experiment with 6-tabling next month, and have a look at the various tools on offer for multi-tablers.
Live MTTs
On the live front I bust out of the Cascades tourney in 30 mins flat overplaying TP2ndTK for my stack. I still beating myself up a bit about the hand, but I don’t think I played it THAT bad. More and more when I play tourneys now I notice common tells in opponents, a lot of stuff that’s been covered in Caro’s book. I reckon I actually need to put more weight in these, because from what I’ve seen they’re right much more of the time than I expected! … and as celebrated in the post below I won a seat to the first GBPT event, in Edinburgh. Definately the best experience I’ve had playing poker to date, incredible feeling winning that, I cant even imagine the feeling of winning a WPT/WSOP title!
Conclusion
The main thing for me this month was definately the move to 4-tabling the $27s, I’m surprised at how comfortable I am playing them… long may I run well. Next month I’ll just continue with the $27s. Probably won’t have as much time to play as work is getting pretty busy, and I’m going to Germany for a weeks holiday with Kerstin & family. Oh, and if I hadn’t already mentioned it… the GBPT!
I’m hoping to dig into the live bankroll to play the $200 and $400 prelimenary events for this too, if work allows.
Cash
Cash virtual game wise UB fucked me around for about a week and a half before telling me I can’t deposit using my Switch card as it’s registered to my previous account they’ve deleted, blah, blah, cocks. So I deposited to play a bonus at a Prima skin and got really bored after about an hour of play. (or maybe it was just because I was stuck ~$50) The play at NL cash is so bad it’s unbelievable, unfortunately unlike STTs I lower my level of play, after an hour of playing with a bunch of donks I just start getting bored and throwing my money away. I’m sure NL cash is extremely profitable but it just seems like too much hard work to me, I figure stick to the virtual online gamess that are giving me the most enjoyment.
Online MTTs
MTT wise I played a bunch of tourneys on Stars and had a really dry month. The huge 1000-2000 fields of these tourneys make the varience pretty big, and it’s difficult to tell whether my poor showings have been down to varience, or poor play… time will tell.
