2010 review.

Reasonable December to end the year: Sports Betting: £157.61. Poker: £336.41. Total profit: £494.02.

Yearly total: Sports Betting: £2,375.03. Poker: £1,152.67. Total: £3,527.70

Positives:

Very few tbh! I suppose two decent months to end with not far short of half the total profit saved it from being a total disaster. November and December saw me trying the $6 turbo hilo stts seriously, with 300 / 318 played in each and 18.5% / 23.6% roi (not including rakeback) is pretty good I guess. Oh, and having my own place (albeit with a big mortgage!) is what I really wanted. Going to try to manage on my own without getting a lodger for the time being, may have to change this if it gets tough.

Negatives:

Where do you want to start?!? Worst total ever, Arsenal not coming 2nd last year costing me £7.5k on the each way acca. Awful first half of the year where I was actually up by less than £100 at the end of June! Trying to keep going on Betdaq and the lack of markets feels like banging my head against a wall.

I’m going to give a few new ideas a try, time will tell if they work out. My target for 2011 is to make at least £6k in total, it’s getting tougher to make a profit from gambling full stop, but that should be achievable imo. I’ve made so many mistakes this year, cutting them out should do the job.

Happy New Year to you, and may all your dreams come true in 2011.

December and 2010 wrap up

Cliffs:
December – awesome
2010 – EPIC
Played a decent volume last few days to put December at £2.2k including rakeback and bonus. Well I say December, more like a week and half of proper graft, working out at a very healthy £60 per hour on 20 winning sessions out of 23.

The share portfolio rallied late today after a poor post Xmas period, with the major holding XEL finishing 2010 at 383.5p – a nice ~420% from the 70p I first bought at.

2010 has been a very successful year for me, not just financially but on a greater whole, soul-fulfilling way too. I’m not in the mood for a waffle (see my January posts this year for that kind of stuff!) but the frame of mind I started to distill at that time has grown and developed with good application this year, and I feel great going into 2011. I am very excited about what the next year will hold, and the short term next five years in general. This promises to be a life forming time and I can’t wait to see what the future brings and how I can hopefully continue to have a positive assertion.

I hope you can look back on 2010 with half a big a smile as I can, and I wish you all the very best for 2011 – make it happen!

Happy New Year everyone :-)

December 2010 Recap

By admin on Thursday, December 30, 2010
Filled Under: Uncategorized

Yo Guys. I’ve launched this two day’s early because I’ll likely be too busy at the start of January 2011 and flying to Tenerife on 7th, so not wanting FTP fans to miss out on our festive recap. This mean’s shenanigans from New Year’s Eve won’t make it onto this recap, not to worry though as I’ll touch on it at the beginning of my January 2011 recap. So before delving into this month’s exploits, I’ll quickly brush over where I left my November recap. Mark was deep in the newly launched Aspers Sunday (28th) afternoon tournament, he ended up finishing seventh for £305 after running AQ into John Kirsopp’s QQ. Then another final table on the closing day of the month (Tuesday 30th) over at Circus for their £2,000 guaranteed, however on the wrong end again as he bust in eighth for £80. Moving onto this month and Circus launched their new Friday night tournament with £500 added on the opening weekend of the month, both Mark and I played this unsuccessfully and bust relatively early. Then Sunday (5th) we played both the Aspers freezeout and Circus double chance (£194 total outlay) with no return, so a slow start to the festive month. Tuesday we headed back to Circus for their flagship monthly tournament, this time joined by George and no return on investment between us.

On Thursday 9th I got new Teamdobbs signing Andy ‘KQ4EVA’ Blair in the tank, when I launched this interview it proved to be the most popular FTP post to date. The feedback I got through FTP, NPF, facebook, and in person was nothing short of phenomenal, I guess it goes someway to showing how nice a guy Andy is but also how popular the FTP Interview series is with our followers. Check this out over;

Interview w/Andy Blair

The following Friday (10th) I abandoned the Circus weekly tournament to hit it up with the Walkers Sensation’s for their Christmas night out, these are all ace guy’s who as well as top players are all my good friends. Cliff notes;

- Lunch and pints at Brockwell Seam, Cramlington (12:00)
- Drinking virtual games all day with Saturday Crew (12:00-20:00)
- Taxi to Osborne’s, Jesmond (20:00)
- Double vodka redbulls with Walkers Sensations (20:00)
- Taxi to Beyond, The Gate (22:00)
- Bar crawl with Walkers Sensations (no idea which bars) (23:00)
- 50NL at Aspers, The Gate (00:00)
- FYEO for some dances (alone, weirdo) (02:00)

Left to right: Neil Harvey, Adam Matues, Dave Mount

The theme was Christmas jumpers, which will go someway to explaining why their all wearing those trendy knitted tops. Check out an ace review of the evening over NPF by Walkers Sensations affiliate Dave ‘FarmerDave’ Mount;

Sensations Xmas Night out Review (just to help Buzzzz remember)

It was the first of many of drunken Christmas nights out, all of which I’ll mention at some point in this recap. Back to our usual weekly schedule on Sunday (12th), Tuesday (14th), and Friday (17th) where we played all the added value and guarantee tournaments across Circus and Aspers, again nothing in return despite a couple of deep runs.

Note: FTP affiliate Dan Trett (as far as I know) is the only person to have played both the Aspers (£50 freezeout) and Circus (£20 +1 Rebuy) on Sundays for the three week’s they’ve both been running concurrently. A record closely followed by Mark Trett and Andy Blair, who with several other’s have played in both events two out of three time’s. Not really anything to be proud of but M’EH, show’s I’ve got going bust in the opening level’s boxed. Anyway this is a run that came to an end as of Sunday 19th, as you will go on to read it was FTP’s Christmas party which stopped me playing my regular Sunday schedule.

On a side note the Grosvenor launched their new schedule (effective as of 17th January 2011) on Monday 13th December, this got mixed reactions and was heavily debated over the NPF. I’m personally excited about all the added value tournament’s for next year (£2,500 per a week over Grosvenor alone), but also pessimistic about the longevity of the current tournament situation in Newcastle. With so many added value tournaments across all three Newcastle casino’s we like the rest of the Newcastle poker community will have to be selective over our weekly choices, it’s fine for those guys who are new to the virtual online games and are keen to play seven nights a week but the majority simply can’t be arsed. Our loyalty is with Circus so this will always be our first choice and when no tournaments there we’ll look to Aspers and Grosvenor, also in the foreseeable future with so much added value in Newcastle our trips to Teesside will be few and far between. It just doesn’t make sense to travel fifty miles down the road for a £1,000 added tournament, when their is a local one on our doorstep. Check out the new Grosvenor schedule posted over the NPF by CRM Phil ‘The Big Cheese’ Chambers;

17th January 2011 New Schedule Launch

Saturday 18th was the third Saturday of the month which meant Teesside were hosting their monthly £100 freezeout, this was part of our monthly schedule but as of late we haven’t been getting down for one reason or another. Again we didn’t go and I went out with friends whilst Mark was at his work’s Christmas party, like I said earlier in this recap it’s unlikely we’ll be travelling down Teesside as much with all the added value tournaments on our doorstep. Then Sunday (19th) it was my Grandma’s eightieth birthday and we (by we I mean, Mark, Steve, Mum, Uncle John, Auntie Alison, Cousin Andrew, & Myself) had all agreed to head up to Alnwick Gardens for a meal at the Treehouse restaurant, however it was like an episode of Fawlty Towers as honestly everything that could go wrong did. Cliff notes;

- On the road: Cramlington > Alnwick (12:30)
- Driving conditions worsen further North
- Arrive Treehouse, Alnwick Gardens (14:00)
- Power cut across most of Northumberland (14:30)
- Restaurant closes, all we get is some complementary drinks (15:00)
- On the road: Alnwick > Cramlington (15:15)
- Driving conditions horrific, police say avoid driving at all costs
- Jack-knifed lorry on A1, delays for several hours (16:00)
- Take country roads, barely visible due to cloud of snow (16:30)
- Arrive Snowy Owl, Cramlington (17:00)
- Three course meal, my Grandma got to see us all together (17:30)

All’s well that ends well I guess and least we finally got together to celebrate with my Grandma, this however did have a knock on effect to my evening plans. It was FTP’s Christmas poker party over at the Killingworth Arms, which was scheduled for 18:30 beginning with a Christmas dinner. I rang Paul to explain we were running late and we’d skip the Christmas dinner as we’d just ate, moving on to cliff notes for the evening;

- On the road: Snowy Owl > Killingworth Arms (19:15)
- £72 NLH freezeout: Cards in the air (19:30)
- Tournament break: Cheeseboard & Play Your Cards Right (22:00)
- Split the tournament four ways for £450 each (23:30)

It was an awesome evening with a bunch of cool additions including a bounty on every player’s head, these were envelopes containing various stuff like cash, bottles of booze, Killingworth Arms vouchers etc. Finally I closed the evening (early morning) by grinding the 100NL for a couple of hours before Paul closed up around 01:00, so yeah although a frustrating start to the day it all worked out well in the end. Then the week before Christmas I might as well camped in Circus as they had their annual tag team tournament (Monday), weekly £2,000 guaranteed (Tuesday), and the Christmas league final (Thursday) which all unfortunately ended in zero return on investment for me but M’EH whatever.

Next up was Christmas eve and it’s tradition for me to hit it up in Cramlington village, so here goes with the cliff notes;

- Lunch and pints at Brockwell Seam, Cramlington (12:00)
- Drinking online games all day with Saturday Crew (12:00-20:00)
- Taxi to Blagdon, Village (20:00)
- Here I met Dan Trotter, a dealer from Circus and an ace lad
- Blagdon: Double vodka redbulls and shots with Dan (20:00)
- Village Club: Double vodka redbulls and shots with Dan (22:00)
- San Lorenzo: Double vodka redbulls and shots with Dan (00:00)
- I was absolute wasted and lost Dan but found Michael Douglass
- Michael Douglass (AKA Dougy) is one of my best friends from school
- Phoenix: Double vodka redbulls and shots with Dougy (02:00)
- By now my bed is calling and I turn in (03:00)

Daniel Trotter

So I’m sure you can all imagine I was hugely hung-over for Christmas day, but M’EH what’s new;

- Morning with my Mum and Steven (11:00)
- Visited my Grandma, Uncle, Auntie, and Cousin (12:00)
- Visited my Dad and Carol (14:00)
- Visit from Mark, Diane, Lauryn, and Zach (15:00)
- Christmas lunch with Mum and Steven (16:00)
- Evening watching Christmas TV with Mum (17:00-01:00)

So yeah Christmas day itself was fine I guess, not how Dan Trett usually spends Saturday’s but whatever. It was nice to see all the family and just relax, even if I was feeling a little under the weather. That brings us onto Boxing day which is always an ace day and this year was no different, as it’s a day I set aside for drinking and I was out with my Uncle Paul. Unfortunately due to other commitments their was only the two of us from the family this year, but nonetheless a smashing day. Cliff notes;

- Lunch and pints at Killingworth Arms (12:00)
- £50 NLH freezeout at Aspers: Cards in the air (16:00)
- Busto, so play some roulette/blackjack (17:30)
- Bar crawl round town, joined by Scotty Hocking (19:00)
- Binge drinking (double vodka red bull) & prop bets (odd man out) ensued
- Paul turns in, left with Scotty & I (23:00)
- Circus, decided we’ll go to Gibraltar to see Marc Mulhern (00:00)
- Taxied by Andy Blair AKA BlairDAWG at least on that night (01:00)
- Passport run: Circus > Scotty’s > Mine > Newcastle airport (03:00)
- DISASTER: No flights to Gibraltar (lack of planning I suspect)
- Deliberated about going somewhere else, but stay in UK (05:00)

Scotty Hocking

I guess everything didn’t go to plan but whatever still a smashing day/night, also on a final note regarding that night I would like to extend my thanks to Andy Blair who is simply a top man for putting up with our drunken profanities. Andy has actually posted a thread over the NPF, which details the shenanigans and is really funny. You can check it out here;

2 Idiots Abroad

For those of you not familiar with Odd Man Out (as briefly mentioned in the cliff notes), it was shown to me by Paul circa 2001 and it’s been very popular on family nights out ever since. I’ll explain below;

Odd Man Out
The fre online game is played either heads up or three handed, all it requires is all players have a few notes of the same value. The rules of the virtual game are simple, you randomly scrunch the note up in your hand and then communally open up the note revealing it’ serial number.

Heads Up

The winner is the player with the first odd number at the end of the note’s serial number, in the event of a tie with both players having an odd/even then the note is thrown into the pot and both players need to get another note (now the pot is doubled with the original stake and the rebuy). This process is continued until eventually there is an odd vs. even scenario, the player who holds an odd scoops pot.

Three Handed

The winner is the player who is the odd man out (so a little different in that it doesn’t have to be an odd number at the end of the note’s serial number to win). Again in the event of a tie, for example all three players have odd/even numbers then all the notes are thrown into the pot and all three players need to reload with another note. This process is continued until eventually there is an odd man out scenario, this can be one odd vs. two evens’ or vice versa.

Surrender

If a player either can’t or doesn’t want to rebuy, then they surrender all notes currently invested. If this happened during a heads up virtual game, then the opponent would scoop the pot, however if this happened during a three handed free online game then they would revert to heads up rules until a winner was crowned.

I know FTP has enough degenerate drinking/gambling followers to make that explanation worthwhile, so to all enjoy and try not to play with fifty pound notes as it can have ridiculous swings (I know from experience, unfortunately).

So after the chaos of the festive season thing’s quietened down and I rested all Monday before taking back to the felt on Tuesday (28th) for Circus’ weekly £2,000 guaranteed. George, Kevin, and I were all in the field, and after running pretty well throughout the tournament I managed to split evenly for £360 each with my good friends Robert Richardson, Dave Stephenson, and Jack Allen.

This brings us to the present (Thursday 30th) and I’m currently just chilling out for a couple of day’s away from the felt and the bar, kind of preparing for New Year’s Eve tomorrow. I have no plans set in stone to see off 2010 but it’s looking like I’ll either hit it up at Daniel Trotter & Ian Robson’s house party or head to Seahouses where a few of my boys have a cottage booked for the weekend. I was at the cottage last new year and it was fine I guess, but I’m in no hurry to rush back so the house party looking the more appealing offer for the minute. Whatever I get up to be sure to check out my January 2011 Recap, where I will for sure detail the evening with hopefully some photo’s to accompany the description.

Looking forward to the opening month of 2011 and January look’s relatively busy, not including the weekly/monthly added value tournaments here is what’s happening;

Saturday 1st January: Circus £40 Double Chance “£500 Added”
Monday 3rd January: Mark Trett’s Birthday “32nd”
Friday 7th January: Tenerife Vacation “Dan, Steve, George, Paul, Kevin, Rob”
Saturday 8th January: SPT £100 Second Leg “Aspers”
Monday 17th January: Kevin Trett’s Birthday “44th”
Monday 17th January: Grosvenor Launch New Schedule “£2,500 Added”
Saturday 29th January: APAT UK Team Championship “Mark in Team NPF”

I’m really looking forward to hitting up some winter sun in the Canary Islands, we’ll be staying at Paul’s villa in Los Cristianos just a five minute walk from the vibrant nightlife of Playa de las Americas. I’ll look to mix the trip up with;

- Poker
- Sunbathing
- Drinking
- Girls (Optimistic)
- Restaurants
- Bars & Clubs
- Free Online Casino de Tenerife

Guess I’ll sign off for now by wishing all my friends and readers;

All the best for 2011

Well thank god that’s over.

Yay, 2010 is nearly finished! Some of it was nice, but pokerwise it was bloody awful. Here’s to a super awesome rungood hotstreak boomswitch of epic proportions all throughout 2011.

Needless to say the DTD £1k went badly. Had a pretty tough table of quite a few young internet guys who I knew or recognised and things just generally didn’t go well. Also dumped £350 on a side event which I went vaguely deep in. It was a 6-max and I assumed it’d be teeming with internet kids eager to light-5bet the crap out of each other but it was actually incredibly soft. Can’t do much about running kings into aces and then bricking 12 outs though.

SO. 2011 goals/resolutiony things:

- Get out of makeup, drop down and play small-midstakes (and hopefully upwards) on my own coin.
- Actually put some decent volume in. Aiming for 4-5 days/week average, and slightly longer sessions.
- Totally change my routine and play a 9am-6pm style day (!) except for weekends. This should help my general routine, sleeping patterns, attitude towards play, reduce variance due to smaller field sizes and it’ll be more healthy socially.
- Exercise every day before showers. More activities, get back into jujitsu.
- Keep playing live events on a similar scale to last year, but play less terribly.
- Make some money.

Good luck at the tables everyone!

The 2010 RoxxU Awards

By admin on Monday, December 27, 2010
Filled Under: Uncategorized

It’s that time of year again. Yes, it is the time of the year when the poker equivalent of the Oscars are awarded.

If you don’t have a RoxxU trophy on your mantelpiece then you haven’t made it in poker.

The winners of the prestigious RoxxU Awards are decided by a voting panel made up of the very best poker players and poker media personnel in the world. These are the only fair and unrigged poker awards in the world.

Hottest Poker Chick

WPT Anchor Kim Lansing takes the award for Hottest Poker Chick. Kimberly isn’t just “poker hot”, she’s hot hot, and has real talent to boot!

Best Poker TV Show

And the winner is…. *drumroll*…. The Micros! Krantz and JimmyLegs have produced a masterpiece, a hilarious animated poker series. Check it out on youtube.

Worst Poker TV Show

The clear winner in the voting was Face The Ace. Seriously? Bobby from The Soppranos presenting a show where the biggest douchebags in the world are contestants playing against “pros” that haven’t won at poker in over a decade?

What a fucking surprise that it turned out to be the worst show of the year. Even super hot Megan Abreigo couldn’t save this show from being an epic fail. Still, every cloud has a silver lining, depsite the epic failure of the show they are now the proud owners of a nice shiny RoxxU trophy. Congrats guys.

Poker Player Of The Year

Our panel of judges took into account a number of factors including number of fools pwned, number of blog hits and number of fanboys, fangirls and railtards.

The clear winner of this impartial vote was Daleroxxu.

Upon learning of the award Daleroxxu had this to say “I am extremely proud to be voted Player Of The Year for 2010 by the panel of elite poker players and the poker media. I’ve tried to set a good example this year to all the lesser poker players out there, to give them inspiration and the hope that one day they could be as awesome as me.”

Most Rigged Poker Awards

There are a lot of rigged poker awards out there, which is why the RoxxU’s are considered the only fair awards in the poker industry. This year’s Most Rigged Poker Awards award goes to Bluff Magazine for their extremely rigged Reader’s Choice Awards. These guys make it seem as if they have a fair vote by their readers, while tactically snubbing certain sites and individuals from their rigged nominations that would otherwise be clear winners of their awards.

Examples:

Favorite Poker Blog – No nomination for The Best Poker Blog In The World – Daleroxxu’s Blogame onlinents. Instead they list 5 boring ass blogs where each blogger writes an essay on each dry subject that nobody gives a fackin shat about, surrounded by shitloads of flashing banner ads for every sketchy poker site and shady rakeback affiliate. Not even a single fanboy video in sight. What a joke!

Favorite Web-based Poker Show – No nomination for the guys at Poker Static who are delivering the best poker media content out there at the moment, including interviews with the best players in the world, strategy segments and awesome podcasts. Rigged!

Funniest Poker Twitterer – Ok for a start it’s “Tweeter” not “Twitterer” and what’s this, no nomination for @DougLeePoker? Either these guys at bluff have no sense of humor or they have rigged it to make sure that @DoyleBrunson and his dumb blonde jokes wins the award yet again.

Congratulations Bluff, you truly are the Most Rigged Poker Awards of 2010. Enjoy the RoxxU.

Biggest Attention Whore

Unanimously voted by our panel of poker experts was Nick Rainey aka ‘MI_turtle’.

He’s the ultimate SNG grinder, and if you don’t grind as hard as him you’re a fucking loser  (and it’s his job to make sure that you know it). Follow him on Twitter? You’re a sheep! Follow his blog? Get a life sheep! Member of his training site? Fucking Sheep! Mad Poker is your favorite show? Baaaaaaaahhhh

Congratulations Nick, it takes a true attention whore to have 3 threads about himself on the front page of NVG, BBV and MTTc, and that’s the kind of talent that wins you a RoxxU.

I Can’t Believe It’s Not Botter

This is the award that is given to the person that our panel of judges just can’t believe it isn’t a bot. 2p2′s Kevmath was a favorite for the award when nominations were first announced, but he has since been revealed to be human in this video.

This years award goes to rs03rs03 on PokerStars, because if you’re 100+ tabling the $1 DoN SNGs for 25 hours per day, every day, then we just can’t believe that you’re not a bot. PokerStars bot expert Jeff used every tool and technique available and said there’s no sign of bot activity on that account. People still didn’t believe that he’s not a bot. PokerStars sent someone round to the guys house to observe him while he played, and determined that he’s not a bot.

People STILL didn’t believe that he’s not a bot. Congratulations rs03rs03, you can include the I can’t Believe It’s Not Botter Roxxu Award as one of your major accomplishments of 2010, alongside being the biggest loser in the history of $1 SNGs.

Best Poker Blog

With a clean sweep of the votes was The Best Poker Blog In The World – Daleroxxu’s Blofre online gaments.

With so many shitty poker blogs out there, leave it to the best in the world to set an example of excellence.

Daleroxxu had this to say “Thanks to the impartial panel of Judges for voting Daleroxxu’s Bloonline gaments the Best Poker Blog, but the real thanks has to go to my loyal followers, you know – you fanboys out there that love me and love my blog, I couldn’t have won this award without you. Remember to check out my blog site for my world tour over at www.tourofcards.com”.

Best Poker Podcast / Videocast

This award goes to Poker Static’s The Hot Seat, presented by Eric Bickel and Bret Oliverio.

These guys have interviewed the hottest players in the virtual online games over 2010, and have always kept it entertaining whilst asking the questions and talking about the subjects that we all want to hear about.

Congrats!

Lardass Poker Player Of The Year

The award for poker lardass looked set to go to Eskimo Clark for the 10th year running but he was excluded from the nominations this time around after I became aware that his 2009 RoxxU trophy was listed on ebay, apparently by someone who found it in a dingy downtown Las Vegas pawn shop. Fuck you Eskimo, don’t you dare disrespect the RoxxUs and the free online game of poker by pawning off your silverware for a couple of buyins to the 1/2 NL virtual online games at the Orleans.

With Eskimo out of the running the votes flooded in for The Coach from Kentuky. The coach hasn’t finished ahead in a game online of poker since the 70′s, and this has sent him on a 40-year comfort eating KFC binge, to the point that we see him today. A true ambassador for his country, he wins the 2010 RoxxU for Lardass Poker Player Of The Year.

Forum Thread Of The Year

The best forum thread of the year was voted to be “View: New Way to Insult People” on TwoPlusTwo’s News, Views, and Gossip forum.

Dear that_pope,

you are a fucking moron

Sunday Million

By admin on Monday, December 27, 2010
Filled Under: Uncategorized

I write this on a Monday morning after playing the Sunday Million. I had a great night’s sleep, which should tell you everything you need to know about how badly the Sunday Million went! I never really got going, didn’t feel like I had my poker head on at all. I gradually donked off a few K of my starting stack until an hour in, when I saw a limp, a raise, and a re-raise pre-flop. Holding AA in the BB I was quite pleased with the situation and put in the 4-bet! The 3-bettor near the button called and called my bet on the Q64r flop. I check the 5 on the turn and he bet. Like I say I didn’t feel I had my poker head on and I shoved all my chips in over his turn bet. He tanked for ages, and folded, I was relieved. If I’d been on my free online game I would have wanted him to call, surely? He’d have to be getting very fruity to have the straight, so he has a big pair or an unlikely set of queens. Watching him more, and seeing his exit hand (calling a big all-in with a bare flush draw) I’m 99% sure he was just tanking for “image” reasons and had air. Anyway, that took me up to 12,500 chips, which was as high as I got, I just couldn’t win another hand, and went out after shoving 12BBs with AJ vs. 77 and missing. I don’t think I lasted more than 2 hours.

I did a bit better on the little $11 Sunday 1/4 mil, had a decent run but once I got in the money (with triple the avg. stack) my luck ran out. I ended up 3368th out of 34377 for a massive $20.62. After that I un-regged from the other 2 tourns I was going to play and went to bed.

I think I’m going to focus on Betfair trading for a bit as I don’t seem to have the passion for poker at the moment. At $215 the Sunday Million is by far the biggest tourn I’ve played, but apart from the AA hand (which got the heart pumping mainly because I thought I’d screwed up) I just didn’t get any kind of buzz from it at all, weird.

Hope you run better than me, gl all.

Simon
